Nestled in the vibrant heart of San Diego’s Burlingame neighborhood, Juan Jasper Kitchen & Wine is an intimate culinary treasure that artfully pairs thoughtfully curated wines with exceptional, meat-forward dishes. This cozy restaurant embodies a welcoming neighborhood ambiance where each visit feels like a special occasion shared among friends.
Juan Jasper shines with its outstanding concept of letting diners select their preferred cut of meat from the butcher next door, ensuring absolute freshness and tailored satisfaction. Signature dishes such as the perfectly crusted New York strip steak steal the show, delivering a tender, juicy bite that’s rich in flavor yet refined in execution. For those seeking comfort with a gourmet twist, the mac and cheese is an irresistible crowd-pleaser—creamy, cheesy, and flawlessly seasoned without ever feeling heavy. Vegetarians won’t be left wanting with standout options like the simple yet sublime mushroom salad, brightened by fresh acidity and expertly balanced flavors.
The wine list is a genuine highlight, boasting an impressive selection of whites and reds that span celebrated regions from France’s Bordeaux and Languedoc-Roussillon to the lush vineyards of California and Italy’s soulful terroirs in Puglia and Chianti. Wine lovers will delight in offerings like the 2020 Chateau Briot Sauvignon Blanc, which complements light appetizers beautifully, while robust reds such as the 2015 Du Château Bladinières Malbec provide the perfect partner for heartier plates.
Visually, Juan Jasper Kitchen & Wine invites you into a warm, intimate setting, with most seating giving a view of the bustling open kitchen—an engaging stage that heightens the anticipation of each dish. The limited seating fosters a cozy, lively atmosphere where attentive staff enhance the experience with friendly, knowledgeable service, thoughtfully pairing wines and accommodating guest needs with genuine care.
Repeated praise from local regulars highlights the restaurant’s consistent quality and charm. Visitors like Samuel Gaston rave about the unique butcher-to-table concept and top-notch service, while Misael Ruiz calls it a “cozy neighborhood wine bar” with dishes like the mac and cheese hitting the perfect mark every time. Meanwhile, newcomers are consistently blown away by the flavorful, well-prepared dishes and curated wine selection, with Erica Foster describing the place as an “amazing gem” she can’t wait to return to.

You can pick the meat you want from next door and they cook it for you— nuff said! Awesome food and great wait staff. Only a 4 star because the seating is so limited and so that this place doesn’t blow up. Love these guys.

Juan Jasper’s is the cozy neighborhood wine bar I keep coming back to. The mushroom salad is stupidly simple, fresh, acidic, honestly a revelation. Mac and cheese hits the sweet spot: cheesy, seasoned, never heavy (our every-time order). The New York strip, from the butcher next door, shows up with a perfect crust. The team’s friendly, attentive, and nails the wine pairings. No wait on a Tuesday for us; weekends get busy. Date night or last-minute walk-in, you’re good.

All right I'll say it, this is one of the best places in San Diego. The food is always phenomenal, the wine selection is great, and the Staff are all friendly and welcoming. If you've been here, you know; if you haven't yet, give it a try, you won't be disappointed.

A great spot and concept, very good food and a neat wine selection! Having said that, 4-stars because you have to pay cash or Venmo, and they don't hand you a check, they just tell you your total. This bill moment es awkward and more so because I did not have enough cash for a decent enough tip, and still have my doubts that they overcharged us. Bitter end to an otherwise very good experience. Korean pancakes, garlic shrimp and heirloom salas are off the charts. Burger is good but not my style (with a thick sauce and no veggies). Wines are awesome and cheap, it shows that they care about that. Be prepared to wait for a bit, although you can get drinks on the sidewalk in the meantime. Will be coming back, hopefully when they sort out their check and payment mess.

I’ve been here like 4 times and everything I’ve had has been really good. They have a small menu, they change it every now and then but the Burger is always there for a reason, very simple but delicious, no veggies tho, so get you the Spicy Caesar Salad and you’re set! Very small place and no reservations so it fills up quick, but it’s worth the wait, I recommend you come early around 4:00pm for no or less wait, and during the week better. Pro-tip, if you are craving a protein that’s not on the menu, you can buy it at the butcher chop next door and they will cook it for you, get you some sides and you’re golden.

Went solo and only had a couple of things - but both the Wedge salad and burger were outstanding. The burger is one the top 5 I’ve ever had, and that covers A LOT of ground. Staff are all super friendly, attentive and fun. This place is a no-brainer….

I love this place. Super cute location and atmosphere. Most seats you get a view of the kitchen which is fun to watch them prepare your food. Service is great and everyone is very friendly. You can tell everything is high quality. The menu is always changing and they have daily specials which have me wanting to keep coming back. I haven't had a wine or dish here that I didn't like.

I almost don’t want to say how good this place is, because then we’ll never get back in. It was amazing! From start to finish, great wine, service and food. Their specials change almost daily and the menu also changes. Cannot wait to share this gem with more friends and family! If we lived closer it would be a regular spot.
